Landslide warnings issued to three districts still in place

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The landslide warnings issued to Kurunegala, Kegalle and Ratnapura are still in effect.

The Disaster Management Centre said the warning issued by the National Building Research Organization yesterday is still in effect and therefore urged residents to remain vigilant.

Deputy Director of the DMC Pradeep Kodippili also requested residents to evacuate landslide-prone areas if warning signs are observed.

Meanwhile, a number of spill gates of the Rajanganaya, Angamuwa, Thabbowa and Kukule Ganga reservoirs and the Deduru Oya Reservoir in the Kurunegala District are still open.

The DMC Deputy Director said a reduction in rainfall was noticed from yesterday however warned the public residing in low-lying areas of possible flooding owing to the opening of spill gates.
