UTV | COLOMBO – The North-east monsoon condition has established over the island and therefore, showers or thundershowers will occur in most provinces of the island today (20th Dec.), Met. Department said.
Fairly heavy falls (above 75mm) can be expected at some places in the Eastern, Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in the Kalutara District, it said.
Fairly strong gusty wind (up to 50 kmph) can be expected in North-western and Central provinces and Hambantota and Matara districts.
Temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers are expected and the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning.
