Japan to support Sri Lanka’s archaeology field

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Japan’s General Secretary of the Constitutional Democratic Party Fukuyama Tetsuro said Japan would explore extending assistance to the archaeology field in Sri Lanka as Sri Lanka has many archaeological sites which need conservation.

He made this observation during a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs State Minister Vasantha Senanayake at the Foreign Affairs Ministry recently.

Tetsuro said the two countries enjoy a strong relationship, adding that he intends to bring a group of members of his political party for a visit to Sri Lanka in the near future to continue the bilateral engagement. He described his close association with Sri Lanka over the years including assistance to the Sarvodaya Movement.

State Minister Senanayake said there are several areas which have potential for close cooperation between Sri Lanka and Japan.
