UK pledges to generate electricity using waste

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Government of the United Kingdom (UK) has pledged to introduce a technology of using waste to generate electricity as a solution for possible power shortage in the future.

During a discussion held recently with the Minister of Power, Energy and Business Development, Ravi Karunanayake, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka James Dauris explained the power generation plan.

The Power and Energy Sector of the country is now moving towards environmentally friendly power generation practices in order to meet the rising electricity demands of the country on a daily basis and this would be a turning point of country’s power generation sector, Karunanayake stated.

The Minister further stressed that the hydropower is the main and low cost power generation practice in Sri Lanka and all the reservoirs which are capable of generating power have already been utilized for that purpose. As a result of that, we have already moved towards low cost renewable energy sources for the generation of electricity.
