(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The token strike conducted by the Postal Trade Unions was concluded at 12.00 AM earlier Thursday (15).
Accordingly, distribution of mails and packages that accumulated at the Central Mail Exchange and post offices island-wide commenced.
Postal service employees engaged in a 48-hour token strike which began on Monday (12) at midnight over a number of unresolved issues in the Postal Department. The protestors charged that the Government was trying to handover several buildings which house postal offices in Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Kandy to an Indian company to build hotels.
It is reported that as a result over 2 million letters accumulated at the Central Mail Exchange and post offices island-wide.
