(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered to postpone the hearing of the Fundamental Rights (FR) Petition filed by Parliamentarian (MP) Vasudeva Nanayakkara which calls for the suspension of the government’s decision to provide Chinese investors 1500 acres of land from the Hambantota Port.
The order was issued by a three bench panel including Chief Justice K Sri Pavan.
The petition filed by MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara states the decision taken by the government did not receive Parliamentary approval.
The Attorney representing the Ports Authority said the decision was taken without the approval of Subject Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.
Accordingly, the three bench panel of the Supreme Court ordered to submit any objections to the petition before the 26th of January.
