WhatsApp launches ‘Status’ to mark 8th anniversary

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – WhatsApp launched a new feature to commemorate its eighth year as an immensely popular message service. A new tab called ‘Status’ was added, and allows users to share photos, videos, and GIFs with their contact list. The new feature allows the user to can take add emojis, doodles, and text onto media.

‘Status’ was in development for a few years, and is WhatsApp’s equivalent for Messenger Days in Facebook Messenger, Stories on Instagram and snapchat.

This feature will soon be available on Android, iPhone, and Windows Phones

Current statistics show that WhatsApp has 1.2 billion monthly users, with 60 billion messages, 3.3 billion photos, 760 million videos and 80 million GIFs sent every day. (courtesy: www.whatsapp.com)
