“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” tops Box-Office

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Paramount Pictures and Skydance’s “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” has opened to a franchise record of $61.5 million domestically and a further $92 million overseas which gives it a worldwide haul of $153.5 million.

The film has only opened in 36 markets for now, just 40% of its total offshore reach, and is 19% ahead of overseas start of “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”. The domestic opening is also Cruise’s second biggest behind only “War of the Worlds”, and the ‘A’ CinemaScore and rave critical reviews should ensure a long box-office life.

At the cost of $180 million, the film needs to perform well to make that back and with this franchise earning most of its coin overseas (around 70%), this is expected to earn over $700 million by the time of its run.

“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” stayed at second with $15 million, dropping 57%, while “The Equalizer 2” dropped 61% and fell from first to third with a further $14 million. The other wide opener this weekend, the animated “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies,” opened in fifth with $10.5 million.
