(UDHAYAM, TRINCOMALEE) – Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command apprehended 8 persons engaged in illegal fishing activities using unauthorised fishing nets in the waters off Elizabath Island, Trincomalee on Tuesday (20).
Along with the fishermen; a dinghy, a 225m long unauthorised net and 80 kg of fish were taken into Naval custody.
The arrested persons, fishing gear and the stock of fish were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Trincomalee for onward legal action.
